Notes on the creative process
The atelier journal
Short observations to help you look more closely, collect ideas, and compose a design direction.
Design note 01
One motif, several forms
A bow can be the connecting detail between a cupcake and a cakesicle. The connection becomes stronger when the palette and finish agree, while the scale of the bow changes to suit each shape.
When gathering inspiration, ask what you want to repeat: the color, the petal silhouette, the surface finish, or the line of a ribbon. Choose one leading detail and let the others support it.
Design note 02
Look beyond the first image
Save the full composition and a closer view of the detail that interests you. Then describe why each one matters. A short note such as “soft ivory, large petals, quiet background” can be more useful than an unfiltered folder of images.
